Bombs Away!

In Lebanon the UN is trying to pull together peacekeepers, but as it stands Italy is worried about taking Israeli fire; the Russians are on the fence; Egypt's influence has been tarnished...and in the end all Kofi and the UN can do is warn the world of the pending security vaccuum in Lebanon.

I can't help think about all the bitching by the current administration about the failures of the United Nations to act decisively in the Middle East...yeah, this is one of those moments where the US government is showing that the United Nations is only as effective as the sum total of all of its parts. And the US is not interested in changing the status quo in Lebanon or proving that the UN can act decisively.

I am reminded of a cartoon that I thought about drawing during the Israel's bombing campaign of Lebanon. It was a simple image, a bomb falling over a map of Lebanon, and on that bomb were two things the first was the letters IDF (Israeli Defense Forces), and the second, "Made in the US of A."

And the title of the cartoon that I never took the time to draw? Why they hate us. I suppose that late is always better than never...maybe I'll draw and post it anyway...

Feeling the Pain at the Pump

The Interview

If the 60 Minutes interview was scored like a prize fight, it was pretty clear that Ahmadinejad controlled the interview and was able to out point Wallace round after round. With all deference to Wallace, at best, he lost a split decision.

Joe hanging his new shingle

And then there is Joe Lieberman. You know your days are numbered when the opposition party is more loyal to you than the members within your own party. The Republican Party loves two Democrats, the first is Zell Miller and the second is none other than Joe Lieberman. And lets face it, when it suits the Republican Party they will donate to any candidate, irrespective of that canidates party if they think that it will benefit the Republican candidate. You can be sure that Lieberman will be holding open his hand to Republican donors. The real question becomes whether or not Joe will align himself with the RNC and declare himself a Republican should he find himself victorious over Lamont and any Republican challenger this November.

Update 20060817: It appears that Joe Lieberman is styling himself as the "independent Democrat" candidate running for the Senate.

Passions of the Mel

I figure that I am letting Mel off easy. It must be hell to be a religious fundementalist who praised Mel's work in the Passion of the Christ to now having to revile him for his antisemitism.
