'Final' Final Draft

'Final' Final Draft

Today's post is a early milestone and is in no way similiar to the cartoon of the previous day (scroll down) which happened to be titled Milestones.

'Final' Final Draft is my 100th cartoon post. I look forward to marking the posting of my 200th cartoon in the not so distant future.

I Want Some...

I Want Some...

I have been sitting on this cartoon for sometime, thinking that there will be an appropriate time to share the image. But as the days passed I started to think that this was one of those cartoons that I would keep stored on my hard drive. And then I got to thinking about Cindy Sheehan and her desire to ask President Bush about what he calls the "noble cause" that is the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

The noble cause is oil, hegenomy, and a son trying to live beyond the shadow of his father.

I suspect that there are those that support Bush who would accuse me of being crazy for posting such "unfounded beliefs." This is something that I can except. And when I take into consideration the beliefs of Bush supporters who state, "Yes, we still believe that Saddam Hussein was connected to September 11th. And yes, we still do believe that we would be fighting this war on our own land, if we didn't take it to them. It would be on our soil for our grandchildren to fight."

Well between you and me, I can't be any worse off than Bush's supporter.

Pentagon Follies 2

Sec. of Defense Donald Rumsfeld may have broke new ground Tuesday while rationalizing why the insurgents in Iraq will not succeed. Rumsfeld cited historical precedent of insurgent movements and that the Iraqi “insurgency does not have a vision that is compelling.” General Myers aided Rumsfeld's position by revealing that recent poll numbers indicate that the insurgency will die out because it is not supported by the Iraqi people.

I just wish that somebody would tell the insurgents in Iraq that they are fighting an uphill battle that the Iraqi people do not support; and would not support, even if the insurgency actually had a vision that was also compelling.

I don’t know, perhaps I am a simpleton, and I don’t understand the machinations of the political war machine as it churns out death and its own reality; the insurgents condition based vision is to drive the invaders/infidels from Iraq. There has to be something compelling to the insurgents vision as they continue to fight, despite the reports that the US and Iraqi forces have killed or arrested over 50,000 of them.

How can a group that consists of 20,000 sustain losses of 50,000 be accused of not having a vision that is compelling?

The Energy Bill

On Monday the 8th of August, George W Bush took time from his "working" vacation in Crawford Texas so he could sign his highly touted corporate rewards laden energy bill into law by in Albuquerque New Mexico .

It should be remembered that this "important" legislation was originally intented to provide more tax cuts to the well connected energy companies than it was in direct costs to the US public over the next 10 years. But of course, the "fiscally conservative" Republican controlled legislature, with their Democrat minions did their best to insure that the US public will now have to pay even more for their government largess.

So, with the stroke of the poison pen, the American public can look forward to paying $24.9 billion for a energy bill that does little to alter the status quo of big government supporting big business.

See you at the pump!

Troop Withdraw?

It has been announced that the troops in Iraq will start coming home as early as March of 2006. Now call me cynical, but these recent pronouncements have a re-election ring to them. How convient for those incumbent candidates seeking re-election to hang their hat on the return of soldiers from Iraq.

And that is just the first part of the Pentagon's plans to bring home the troops. According to Newsweek there could be as few as 40,000-60,000 troops in Iraq by the end of the year.

If I were an incumbent candidate this would serve me well in the months and the days leading up to the November election. I can only imagine the commercials of the formerly pro-invasion candidate turned bring them home candidate(s) declaring that only their re-elect will cement the mission in Iraq and secure the return of all US personnel serving Iraq.
